Student Clubs thinking Globally at Glenforest Secondary SchoolY.G.A (Youth for Global Action) The GAA is made up of members representing most major student clubs in the school. Their mission is to be the change in the world and to promote global awareness at Glenforest. They are working together with other groups including Youth In Action, partnering with Free the Children to raise awareness during International Development week in February. They attended the Student Leadership for Global Development Conference in November. Green Team Glenforest's Green Team, and active and longstanding club comprised of now over 50 members, is currently engaged in the Litter Not Program with the City of Mississauga. We also co-ordinate the recycling initiatives in the school, while encouraging all students to be wary of their ecological footprints, here and at home. Glenforest has just been accepted to the Green School Program in Peel this year, sponsored by Ecosource. This is a multifaceted program aimed at raising global environmental awareness in the school, using a variety strategies that are unfolding this exciting year. What we learn with the Green School Program this year, we hope to export to other high schools in Peel. So stay tuned! IBSL IBSL organized "Global Awareness" week in November, 2007, including a guest speaker from the Congolese embassy in Toronto. Students Without Borders |
