It’s almost the end of another year, so it’s time again for my list of the year’s best albums. Of course, like last year, this is not actually the “best” based on any artistic criteria, rather it’s really just a list of the albums I listened to the most. (Which I guess means they were the best to me). Yeah, some of these were released in 2010, but didn’t make it into my playlist until this year. But these aren’t just albums with a couple good tracks – you can play them from start to finish on repeat. You might notice this list is almost completely Canadian content – well, I guess we put out good music.
Here they are:
1. Land of Talk – “Cloak and Cipher”
2. Broken Social Scene – “Forgiveness Rock Record”
Check out this vid for a tune I mastered for the L.A. hard rock band Hotel Diablo, produced by Gilby Clarke of Guns’n'Roses. One day turnaround and up on iTunes!
So I’m still plugging away at the 1st cover tune, (the) “High Road” by Broken Bells. Got keys, drums and bass done, guitar and vocal left to go.
In bigger news, the first single from the kids album I just produced/mixed is out. Check out the youtube video below! Fun stuff. This group is awesome.
First in case anyone missed it, here’s a link to an article behind the scenes on Kanye’s MBDTF album – an interesting read. Apparently he pulled the Kramer/Leonardo sleep trick of only a few hours at a time to good effect.
Second, a cool, free vst plugin for those of you that know what that is, that has percussion and fx from the super marios bros 8-bit game.

Thirdly, I’m gonna be counting down from album number 10 soon with some cover tunes, so count on hearing a song from Broken Bells soon. Number 9….. a littled worried about that one, but I’ve got something in mind.
To kick off this blog and the New Year, I thought I would take a quick look back at my favourite albums of the past year. They are ranked by which ones I listened to the most (and therefore enjoyed). In honour of these great albums, I plan to do up a nice cover version of one song from each in the coming weeks and months with accompanying videos. Stay tuned!
